Though they saw Jesus preach and speak like no one else before, His disciples asked him to teach them how to pray and not how to preach. They must have seen something special about the steadfastness of the Lord in prayer that they needed to learn. In the text, Jesus teaches the right circumstances surrounding prayer, as well as the right structure for prayer.
