Parenting Help in Time of Trouble

Sep 8, 2024    Jason Whitley

We’re focusing on parenting because that’s where Paul is at the end of Ephesians 6:1-4.

Today, I want to explore several passages, especially from Proverbs, which has a lot to say about parenting and wisdom in general.

Solomon teaches his son how to live and be prepared for life. If you’re wondering what to teach your kids, Proverbs is a great place to start. I want to give you 10 Biblical Directions on Parenting. These principles aren’t just for parents—most of them can be applied to any season of life.

1. Be God's Kind of Person - 1 Corinthians 10:31; 2 Corinthians 5:9

2. Show Deference to Other Parents -Romans 14:13

3. Parent in the Local Church - Hebrews 10:25; Titus 2:3-5

4. Teach Life Principles - Romans 13:7; Proverbs 15:1; Philippians 2:3

5. Don’t Spare the Rod - Proverbs 22:15

6. Encourage Your Child - Ephesians 6:4

7. Don’t Raise a Pharisee - Matthew 23:25; Proverbs 4:23; Proverbs 20:5

8. Check Your Motivations - 1 John 4:18

9. Pray for Your Children - Job 1:5

10. Trust the Perfect Parent (God) - Isaiah 1:2
