Our Helper, the Holy Spirit

Speaker: Jason Whitley Series: Ephesians - The Unsearchable Riches of Christ Topic: Sanctification, The Helper, Holy Spirit Scripture: John 16:7, Romans 8:14, John 16:14, Romans 8:9–10,

Richard Sibbes, the English Puritan said:
"There is nothing, in the world, so great and sweet a friend that will do us so much good as the Spirit."

John 16:7

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.

It seems a surprising thing that it would be to the Believer's advantage to have Christ leave us on the earth--but He didn't.  He sent us His presence in the Holy Spirit who indwells the Christian.

Today's sermon takes a side trip to the Gospel of John and additional passages to further "flesh out" what we need to know of the role of the Holy Spirit in relation to the Christian and our walk with Christ.

  1. Our Helper is the Eternal Life-giving Spirit of God.
  2. Our Helper is given to us for our advantage.
  3. Our Helper dwells within us to empower us and sanctify us.
