Back to the Beginning

Speaker: Jason Whitley Series: The Gospel According to Mark Scripture: Mark 10:1–12

While in the region ruled by Herod Antipas (who executed John the Baptist for speaking out against his ungodly marriage), the Pharisees ask Jesus about divorce. In doing so, they set a trap for Christ. If He answers unwisely (albeit correctly), Jesus could set Himself on an open conflict with Herod. As always, Jesus answers the question, and He provides truths about marriage in His response.

Four Truths about Marriage from Mark 10

  1. God’s design for marriage is that it be an unbreakable union. (Mark 10:9)
  2. God, in His great mercy, bears with our weaknesses. (Deuteronomy 24)
  3. God, not only has a high view of marriage, but also has a high view of women.
  4. Marriage is ultimately about God.
