The Cost of the Cross
Passage: Galatians 6:11–6:18
There are reasons to leave Christianity. We as Christians need to know these reasons and count the cost. Following Christ is a terrible journey plagued with resistance, enemies, threats, trials and tribulations. Paul was no stranger to this and neither should we. But despite these oppositions, we must continue in the faith. As the world presses against us and as we face mounting pressures to depart the faith, we must continue therein.
Paul ends his letter to the Galatians with a rebuke to churches who are compromising the gospel by believing that Christ is not sufficient for their justification. He exhorts them to not fall away through belief in human works but rather to have faith in Christ and believe in the work He has done for us, i.e. the Cross.
Reasons You Will be Tempted to Leave Christianity
- You will be pressured to leave Christianity. (Galatians 6:11,12)
- You will not be able to boast in yourself. (Galatians 6:13)
- You will have to cling to a shameful Cross. (Galatians 6:14-16)
“Eternal life is a free gift, but it will cost you everything.”
