Money is a topic that everyone has to reckon with. The world obsesses over it, and often Christians do too. The Lord Jesus, while on earth, did not make light of money and our heart attitude toward it. He made clear that we can either choose to serve God or to serve money. We CANNOT do both. In light of that, we must seek from God’s Word how not to serve money but how to serve God.
Our passage today addresses how our pursuit of wealth in this age relates to our pursuit of wealth in the next. It also addresses the worry and anxiety that we self-inflict over concerns of money.
Two Ways to Choose God over Money
- Live for heavenly rewards rather than earthly riches. (Matthew 6:19-24)
- Lean on God rather than money. (Matthew 6:25-34)
