A Time to Trust God
Speaker: Jason Whitley Series: Ecclesiastes: Live for God Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:1–22
There are things in life that we cannot reconcile: we can never really understand why certain evils happen. We know that sin is the root cause, but we may wonder why God let some things happen. In addition to wondering why, we often wonder, “What for?” These are important questions that people face. We often wish for more certainty in life.
Solomon doesn’t shy away from these thoughts; he wants his readers to wrestle with them. He wants us to avoid living for ourselves with what resources God gives us. Sure, we cannot accurately predict what each day will bring. But, while each day is pregnant with mystery for us, nothing surprises God. So, should we wash our hands in despair at our lack of control? Should we resolve it pointless to live or labor purposefully? How should we view the limited experiential perspective of life that God has granted us?
Three Ways to Trust God in the Face of Uncertainty
- Revere the God of everything. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-11)
- Resist resolving the difficulties. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
- Rest in God’s just closure. (Ecclesiastes 3:16-22)
